Local seamstress Renee Sopko of Milford and her team of volunteers helped others during the first 5 weeks of the pandemic by making about 10,000 protective masks, including the ones in the photo above.

As the protective equipment shortage presented itself during the first 5 weeks of the coronavirus pandemic, Renee and her team of volunteers made and delivered or shipped about 10,000 masks.

The team donated their efforts to create and supply local individuals, families, and health care facilities with much-needed masks—for free.

These simple non-medical fabric masks:
  • Help prevent people from touching their faces between hand-washings
  • Help slow asymptomatic spread (learn more HERE)
"This N.J. seamstress used her skills to help save lives during the coronavirus crisis.
Renee Sopko and her team of volunteers made about 100 to 300 masks a day."

The idea was sparked by her neighbors Stephen and Annie Grenier and it quickly mushroomed in to a full-time operation involving a team of over 30 generous helpers who donated their time, washing, ironing, cutting fabric, and more.

So many people donated supplies—elastic, fabric, thread—and donated monies to help purchase more supplies and to cover postage to get the masks into the hands of those who needed them most but either couldn't find them elsewhere or couldn't afford them due to the financial impact of the pandemic.

Our Masks in Action!

Donations are still being accepted

Picture
For 5 weeks beginning March 20, 2020, Renee's team of volunteers fulfilled requests for over 10,000 free masks from nearly 700 people.

Even though the initiative has come to a close, many kind folks continue to ask if they can still donate to help offset the many out-of-pocket costs incurred during the 5-week initiative.

The fabric, elastic, thread, shipping supplies, and postage were costs in the thousands of dollars. If you'd like to help defray these costs, you are welcome to donate in any amount via one of the methods below. Thank you very, very much in advance! We feel and appreciate your support.
